There are strong indications that the Nigeria Football Federation will give Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, new conditions for his contract renewal, over his recent outbursts in the media.
The Franco-German had in recent times lamented the delay in getting his contract renewed and how he’s being owed allowances by the NFF.
The renewal of Rohr’s contract, expected to end June 2020, has stirred controversy among football stakeholders.
Based on the provisions of the contract signed by Rohr and his employer – NFF, the gaffer is eligible to negotiate with other countries from January 2020.
NFF’s Technical Director, Mr. Bitrus Bewarang, in a statement, hinted that though the federation wants Rohr to continue his job, the coach’s utterances about his contract was a hindrance.
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, earlier gave Rohr fresh conditions of being domiciled in Nigeria and being present at stadiums to watch Nigeria domestic league games for his contract renewal.
Bewarang said, “Inasmuch as we appreciate the work that Mr. Rohr has been doing with the Super Eagles in the past 40 months, his recent penchant for breaching provisions of the contract he signed with the NFF and the Code of Conduct for coaches is not good for the relationship.
“The NFF wishes that Mr. Rohr continues in the job because of the team he is building for Nigeria which looks promising and has earned some good results since he took charge, but he cannot continue to nonchalantly cause the NFF as a body, and Nigeria as a nation, reputational damage through his utterances and actions.”
