Immigration arrests trafficker, frees five victims

The Nigerian Immigration Service says it has arrested a suspected human trafficker travelling to Europe with five female victims via Niger Republic.

The Comptroller General, NIS, Muhammad Babandede, said the arrest was made by the NIS operatives at Kongolam border, Katsina State.

Babandede, in a statement on Saturday by the service Public Relations Officer, Sunday James, said days of crossing borders without valid travel documents was over as the Special Border Corps and regular border control officers were always on their toes.

He noted that the SBC and regular border control officers were patrolling to ensure adequate border security and control, while human mobility was regulated in line with Federal Government’s directive.

The CG lauded the team at Kongolam for being on the alert and operating a watertight control.

He said, “I want to commend the Katsina Command for making it difficult for traffickers to pass through the border.

“The suspect and the five female victims had been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Kano Zonal office, for further action in line with NIS mandate.”
