LASEMA to develop app for road accidents

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, has said the agency is working on a new technology to increase response time to emergencies in the state.

He spoke on Monday at Ikeja, Lagos, during a stakeholders’ meeting on road traffic accidents

Explaining how effective the proposed app would be, he said, “The app will increase the efficiency of emergency management teams in the state to avoid late intervention and worsening of victims’ condition.

“It works like a taxi app. Your GPS is activated when you call 767 or 112, the Lagos State toll-free numbers. You are then connected to an emergency operator, who explains basic first aid to you if you demand it and sends an ambulance your way.

“You will be able to see the ambulance’s journey to you and its estimated time of arrival. You can also call to keep track of the location of the ambulance to be assured it’s coming to your location.”

The Director-General, FCT Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Idris Abbas, said there was a need for public enlightenment.

“We need to educate the populace on these issues and sensitise our leaders in government to place priorities on this sector. We are rendering service to humanity and we need to continue to improve on that sector,” he added.
