Zamfara gov to grant 100 bandits amnesty

Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle  will grant 100 Fulani bandits currently in detention at  Gusau prison amnesty as part of the  peace process in the state.

This was disclosed by the governor when he received the representatives of the Fulani community who paid him a courtesy call at Government House in Gusau on Tuesday.

Matawalle, according his media aide, Alhaji Zailani Bappa,  lamented the  criminalisation  of  Fulani in parts of the country.

“I am one of you and I know you are not terrorists. What is happening today has a cause and we are determined to address it with your cooperation,”  Bappa quoted the governor as saying.

To ensure peace in the North-West,  Matawalle said governors in the zone  decided  to ban  the   vigilante  group fighting bandits  in the area.

He  called on all  Fulani in the state  not to believe those telling them   that the  state government was not sincere about the peace process.

He said, “You can see now you are here not only in Gusau, but  at  Government House. Nobody will arrest you or harm you. Our aim is to have a lasting peace in our dear state.”

Earlier, the representatives of Fulani in the state,  who spoke through  Baba  Bello, commended the governor and his commitment to the peace process.

Bello promised that the bandits  in the state would  surrender their weapons.
