N1trn budget inadequate for Lagos challenges – Sanwo-Olu

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the N1trn budget of the state is inadequate to tackle its numerous challenges.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, said the state needed to be more creative in order to achieve more.

He said, “The Lagos budget is about N1trn and that is less than $3bn. Three billion dollars is not up to the budget of the fire department in the City of Boston; it is not up to the budget of the public health in the City of Chicago.

“We still have a long way to go even if we collect three times the revenue we are collecting now. We can be creative and we can do a lot more with what we have now.”

Reacting to a question on his relationship with Governor Akinwumi Ambode after the primary election, Sanwo-Olu said his relationship with the governor had returned to normal despite the verbal attacks of the incumbent governor against him.

He said their focus now was how the party would retain power in the state to continue to further develop it.

“He is my governor and when it comes to this, it is important for me to tread carefully and give the seat he occupies the respect it deserves. We don’t have any issue. Two days ago, I sat behind him. We have all moved on,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration would tackle unemployment, seek the cooperation of the people to tackle waste management and traffic problems.
