Some Nigerians on social media have knocked Pastor Tunde Bakare over his remarks on the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, on Sunday, commented on the lifestyle and name of the late singer, saying he “reaped the reward of his unpleasant lifestyle while alive.”
Bakare said this while speaking at the 2nd anniversary of The Envoy Nation, a UK-based church, adding that the late Imolenisation record label owner associated with evil people while he was alive.
He claimed the former Marlian Music record label signee had engaged in an “unpleasant lifestyle” while asking the congregation if “Mohbad is a good name.”
“My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know Mohbad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? Mohbad,” he asked.
“When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth.
“I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name? Moh Bad,” Bakare disclosed.
Taking to social media, netizens on Monday, blasted Bakare for the comment.
A netizen, Austine Otu, sarcastically hailed Bakare for being a sinless pastor, adding, “My instinct told me one prominent pastor will preach about the boy yesterday in church”
Another Netizen, Anthony Okobi said, “No wonder God always pranks him every four years that he would be Nigeria’s president.”
Dickson Felix, on the other hand, advised Bakare not to talk “if he has nothing good to say about the late artiste.”
Olamide Ajayi, came hard on the pastor saying, “He didn’t knock himself for not winning the presidential election and campaigning for highest bidding politicians.”
Another netizen, Bamidele Jonathan advised, “This is not a good time to say something like that.”
Also, Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, on her Instagram handle, asked Bakare to leave Mohbad’s name out of his ministration and apply the same level of scrutiny and commentary on his colleagues with sex scandals.
“Dear pastor Tunde, When your colleagues are caught with their pants down in unholy sexual activities. We never hear your voice, you never speak nor preach about them.
“It comes to the death of a boy who is old enough to be your last born and you say ‘he reaped the reward of his actions. ‘What Actions?
“Please please please keep the same energy with your corrupted Colleagues as you just did today. It is the anointing of God upon your head that is making me not go off on this loose comment of yours.
“I have learned over the years that if you have nothing nice to say, Keep mute (do not talk at all). Preach your gospel and leave Mohbad’s name out of your ministration. I do not respect old age, I respect the wisdom you exhibit at old age,” she wrote. (Punch)
