Petrocam opens another solar-powered LPG filling skid outlet

In a bid to lessen the present hardship Nigerians go through to get Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), a major player in the Nigeria LPG market, Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited on Thursday February 17, 2022 formally opened another solar-powered LPG filling skid outlet in Ejirin, Epe, Lagos State.

Petrocam has huge investment in LPG bulk storage and retailing through active participation in LPG distribution channels to ensure the products get to the consumers in high quality and safety.

The formal opening of 5 metric tonnes gas skid had in attendance the chairman of Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area, Honourable Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, pioneer chairman of Ejirin Local Council Development Area and former Permanent Secretary (PS) on Education, Chief G.A Akintola and many others.

In an interview with newsmen at the formal opening of the outlet, the Managing Director of Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited, Mr. Patrick Ilo said the company built the LPG gas skid in order to encourage the usage of LPG, particularly in a rural area like Ejirin where most people use firewoods, noting that people can buy even 1kg depending on what they can afford.

Ilo also said the building of the gas skid provides employment opportunities for people of Ejirin considering how people leave rural area to urban area searching for employments.

On the proliferation of LPG stations in Nigeria, Ilo said; "I’m not sure it's enough because we have over 200 million people in the country and where we are going now is alternative source of energy and it's not going to depict the ozone layer. The only thing we have to look into is the security concerns and make sure they are properly situated. Like here, we are certified by Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and we got all the documents from government, from suitability (which they look at), to approval, to construction, from license to operation. So proliferation does not really matter here and if you look at this environment, we are the first."

He advised government on the implementation of Nigeria Gas Policy, saying; "government should show liberalism. They should make sure the usage of gas is deepen like in advance countries without paying lip service. Payment of VAT on importation of gas should be removed totally."

"Government should make conscious efforts in ensuring that we produce more gas locally instead of importing to bring down the price," Ilo said.

While reacting to the commissioning of the Gas Skid, the ruling king of the land, Elejirin of Ejirin, Oba Rafiu Ishola Babatunde Balogun expressed his heart felt appreciation to petrocam for bringing such huge development to Ejirin community.

The Elejirin of Ejirin recalled that he has spent millions of naira on projects in past just to ensure Ejirin catch up with development but all to no avail.

He stressed that all his pension money as a retired civil servant was invested in Ejirin just to see the community develop but all investment went down the drain. He therefore prayed for Patrick Ilo, family and petrocam that higher will they go in life.

In his address, the chairman of Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area, Honourable Akogun Wale Raji Anomo noted that Ejirin is not just a common town, there are numerous opportunities in Ejirin, saying Ejirin is a commercial hub from time immemorial.

He added that in no time Petrocam business will boom as there are lots of plans from the government to establish other businesses.

He thereby encouraged Mr. Ilo to persuade his friends to come invest in the community which has prospects.
