CAF: Angels must beat Sundowns, Vihiga, says Ezenagu

Action between Rivers Angels and ASFAR at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt

RIVERS Angels striker, MaryAnn Ezenagu, has promised that the team will bounce back from their disappointing Group B 3-0 drubbing in the hands of Morocco’s ASFAR Club on Saturday at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.

Sanaa Mssoudy scored the competition’s first hat-trick to hand her side a decisive victory.

The loss leaves the Nigerian champions bottom of their group on goals difference with Kenya’s Vihiga Queens, who lost 1-0 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening encounter.

Angels will next face Sundowns in a must-win game on Tuesday, before rounding off their final group game on November 12 against Vihiga.

A win in their next encounter will give the Port Harcourt-based side hope of proceeding to the semi-finals.

Ezenagu believes they’ve learnt their lessons from the loss and will go all out to get the maximum points in their final group games.

“The loss is an eye-opener to us, that there is more to this competition and we believe that our next game is going to be better,” the striker told CAF media.

“I’m expecting nothing less than victory in our next two matches to help us qualify out of the group and into the semi-finals. Our next two games are a must-win.”(Punch)
