Stakeholder lament inadequate support for renewable energy in Nigeria, unveils energy solutions for MSMEs

The Executive Director of Gennex Technologies, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ilo, has lamented the inadequate support given by the Federal Government to renewable energy in the country.

She noted that the absence of policies to regulate renewable energy business in Nigeria had continued to aid the proliferation of low-quality products, adding that low-quality products would send the wrong signal to the population that solar energy is not working.

Ilo stated this recently in Lagos while speaking with newsmen at the launch of Lobo Combo 1.2 KVA solution and solar fan products of Gennex Technologies in commemoration of the 2021 Customer Service Week.

She described Lobo Combo 1.2. KVA solution is a perfect choice for people in the three categories of energy demand spectrum—higher, medium or low energy demand, adding that the Gennex Solar Fan needs no electricity supply to function.

She explained that: “If the government is giving renewable energy in Nigeria enough support or attention, it would go a long way to alleviate enormous costs incurred in bringing the products to the country. If the environment is conducive, we can also establish a manufacturing plant to produce all the components and it will go a long way in cutting down the cost of renewable energy products in Nigeria.”

Ilo revealed that Gennex Technologies pays 20 percent as customs duty on batteries, adding that, “we still pay customs duty on panels despite the fact that we ought to pay nothing. They usually tell us that there are some components that come with it that attract customs duty.”

According to her, there is a wide gap in the power industry in Nigeria and that is why the firm is on the ground to bridge the gap in providing reliable and efficient solutions for Nigeria, adding that it was working tirelessly to ensure Nigerians have quality products that would give sustainable power solutions.

“We partner with Canadian Solar. They have quality solar products. We also partner with some battery-producing companies across the world,” she added.

On the Lobo Combo, Ilo said Lobo Combo 1.2KVA solution is a Gennex initiative to provide support to MSMEs and galvanise the economy.

“As MSMEs provide 60 per cent of total employment, providing energy access to this critical segment helps to sustain job creation, productivity and economic growth for our country. This is in line with our company’s mission to provide energy access by delivering efficient, innovative and affordable products and solutions. This also dovetails with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 7 and 8 respectively.”

“As with all our products, the LOBO Combo 1.2KVA solution is designed and customised to provide the necessary resilience for the Nigerian environment. It also comes with the Gennex mark of quality, warranty and after-sales support. We, therefore, seek partnership with financial institutions to provide this product to MSMEs across the length and breadth of Nigeria through creative financial initiatives,” she stated.
