Ogunbote not getting carried away despite victory

Remo Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, says he and his team are not getting carried away despite their emphatic victory over Shooting Stars on Saturday.

The Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State club were crowned champions of the 9th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup after they defeated their Southwest derby rivals 4-0 in the final hosted at the Remo Stars Stadium Stadium in Ikenne.

A hat-trick from Andy Okpe and another goal from former Oluyole Warrior striker David Ojukwu were enough for the Sky Blues Stars to humiliate 3SC and win the nation’s premium class pre-season tournament after breaking their seventh-time semi-final jinx.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, Ogunbote said he was not getting carried by the result as they prepare for the new Nigeria Professional Football League season.

He said, “I am not getting carried away by the result because I know I do not have a finished product yet. All I know is that this is a pre-season tournament and my take is, it has assisted the team to see our strengths and our weaknesses so that we can work on them.

“I tell you we are not going to be carried away by it and I am sure that Shooting Stars are also not a finished product yet but our prayer is to do well in the season when it eventually commences.

“My primary assignment is to ensure that the team do well and sustain its premiership status and that’s what we are going to do.”

The victory means that Remo Remo Stars will earn a cash reward of N500, 000 while 3SC will get N300, 000 as runners-up.
