Osimhen netted his sixth goal the campaign in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Cagliari on Sunday to net his sixth goal in five games.
He opened his accounts for the month and the season in Napoli’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City in the Europa League on September 16, scoring a brace after he had drawn blanks in their 2-1 victory over
Juventus in the Serie A five days earlier. He also scored a goal against Udinese on September 20 before adding another brace against Sampdoria on September 23.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland has scored five goals in three games, while Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku also has five goals in four games.
The players on four goals include Christiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, Robert Lewandowski, Edin Dzeko, and Wissam Ben Yedder.
Meanwhile, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has hailed Osimhen for his contribution to the team’s 2-0 victory over Cagliari on Sunday.
The Eagles striker scored the first goal and won the penalty for the second goal which was scored by Lorenzo Insigne before being removed in the 77th minute.
Speaking after the victory, Spalletti described Osimhen as a great team man.
“From an athletic point of view, Osimhen is something incredible.
“He manages to cover a distance of twenty meters in three or four heartbeats and he makes them alone long before the midfielders come out. In addition to being a bomber he is a great team man,” Spalletti said.
Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello also believes Osimhen will be important to Napoli’s title charge.
“Napoli started well, they had not very difficult matches, but they proved to be a team,” he told TMW via CalcioNapoli24.
“It will be difficult to beat. I saw an important conviction. “They have always been among the first, the race is still long, and the direct clashes will be fundamental.
“I had foreseen, however, that Napoli would be among the best. They have changed little and have quality. Plus Osimhen scores a lot, he has to improve because he is young, but in the future, it will be very important,” he added.
Former Napoli forward, Paulo Di Canio also said Osimhen is making the difference for Napoli this season.
“If I expected Osimhen like this? No, honestly no,” Di Canio told TuttoNapoli.
“He is a velociraptor. He is wiry but muscular, and he holds the ball to get the team up. He is an absolutely decisive player for Napoli and he is one who is making a difference.”
Meanwhile, Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia has said Osimhen would be worth more than Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in a year.
Lukuka joined Chelsea from Inter Milan for €115m after spending two seasons with the Milan-based club.
“Osimhen, at a cash level, was paid only €50m: a figure that, with hindsight, is low,” Bargiggia said on 1 Station Radio via Area Napoli.
“Let’s forget that the four players given to Lille were convenient for the budget, but Osimhen, in a year, he can reach over €100m and approach the ratings of Romelu Lukaku.
“Moreover, he earns only €5m gross in salary, not much, for a striker of his caliber.” (Punch)
