Two LaLiga teams track Omeruo

Kenneth Omeruo is on the radar of two LaLiga clubs in the wake of Leganes’ relegation from the Spanish topflight to the Segunda division.

Levante are one of the two clubs believed to be keenly interested in the 26-year-old centre-half but both are not prepared to match his €3m valuation, as Leganes are looking to recoup a large chunk of the €4.5m they paid Chelsea a year ago for the Nigeria international.

Trabzonspor are also said to be interested in signing the former Kasimpasa defender, who is Leganes’ second most expensive signing in history, after he joined the Spanish side on a permanent deal last summer.

“Omeruo is not short of offers as there are two teams eager to get him but his valuation could be a hitch; we are hopeful,” a close source to the player told our correspondent.

Meanwhile, the defender and two others have handed in transfer requests to leave the club just after a year, a report in Spanish daily AS revealed.

“Siovas, Silva and Omeruo point to potential sales. None is seen playing in second division and they handed proposals to leave Butarque,” the Spanish tabloid wrote.

“Leganés could sell, but not ‘give away’. The last case with options to leave Leganes is that of Kenneth Omeruo. The Nigerian defender is one of the biggest signings for the Cucumbers, who spent just over €4.5m on him, making him one of their most expensive signings in their history.

“With a contract until 2024, in his case it would also limit him to play in the second division, taking into account his aspirations to continue playing with Nigeria.”

Since his LaLiga debut, Omeruo has one goal to his name in 51 matches.
