COVID-19: Kwara traces Lagos contacts as deputy gov, wife test positive

Doctors have begun contact tracing among the staff after the state deputy governor and Chairman of the state Technical Committee on COVID-19, Mr Kayode Alabi, and his wife, Abieyuwa, test positive for COVID-19.

It was gathered that the tracing would take the officials to Lagos State, where the wife was until a week ago when she returned to Kwara.

A source stated that doctors working on COVID-19 at the state isolation center had already started contact tracing among the staff who worked closely with the deputy governor and his wife.

He said, “Medical doctors working on COVID-19 have started inviting those of us who work closely with the deputy governor and his wife. I was invited today and test was conducted on me. But after the test, we were asked to go on isolation in our homes.

“But the tracing will reach Lagos State as the Second Lady was in that state until a week ago. We believe that she brought the virus from Lagos.”

Earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and spokesperson for COVID-19 Technical Committee, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the deputy governor and his wife’s status in a statement on Tuesday.

Ajakaye said, “Yesterday, August 3, 2020, His Excellency the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Kwara State Technical Committee, Kayode Alabi and his wife, Her Excellency Mrs Abieyuwa Alabi, underwent COVID-19 test after they showed slight symptoms of the virus.

“The results of their test are positive. The couple are very stable and in high spirit, and are now undergoing standard management protocols supervised by the government’s medical team.”
