Two COVID-19 patients in Bauchi State have escaped from their isolation centre.
They include a 25-year old man and a 15-year-old almajirai boy.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwan Mohammed, confirmed the development while speaking to journalists in his office on Thursday.
He said that while the almajirai boy was traced and brought back to the centre, while the other patient is still at large.
He said, “Yes, there were cases of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 who ran away from the isolation centres where they were being treated and managed.
“He is a 12-year-old almajirai that was brought back to Bauchi from Kano State and he tested positive, he ran away from the isolation centre and went back to Dass town (in Dass Local Government Area).
“We were informed about it and we in turn, told the Emir of Dass about it and one of our directors went and brought him back. He ran away three days ago (Tuesday) and we brought him back that same day.”
He said the contact tracing of all he had contacts with had begun, saying that “we have started tracing the five people he came in contact with.”
Speaking on the other fleeing patient, Mohammed said, “Another person ran to Konkiyel village. He also ran away from the isolation centre, he was positive and was on treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital here in Bauchi.
“He is 25 years old and he ran away and went back to Darazo. We have not yet got him and we gave the police and the DSS Personal Protective Gears, they know where he is and they will go and bring him back.”
