Lagos State recorded 183 cases of coronavirus on Thursday, the highest daily figure to be reported in any state in Nigeria within 24 hours.
This was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control while giving the daily COVID-19 update in the country.
It also stated that 381 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the country.
This, the NCDC said, brings the total number of infections in the country to 3,526.
It also announced that four deaths were recorded in the country, making the total number of fatalities from coronavirus-complications rise to 107.
It said, “On the 7th of May 2020, 381 new confirmed cases and four deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 3,526 cases have been confirmed, 601 cases have been discharged and 107 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 381 new cases are reported from 17 states – Lagos(183), Kano(55), Jigawa(44), Zamfara(19), Borno(9), Bauchi(19), Katsina(11), Kwara(8), Kaduna(7), Gombe(6), Ogun(5),Sokoto(4), Oyo(3), Rivers(3), Niger(2), Akwa Ibom(1), Enugu(1), Plateau(1).”
Data obtained from the NCDC’s website showed that Lagos has recorded a total 1,491 confirmed cases, among which 1,052 are active, 406 have recovered, and 33 dead.
Earlier on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced that two patients died of coronavirus-related complications in the state.
The commissioner tweeted, “Lagos recorded two more COVID-19 related deaths, bringing total deaths associated to #COVID-19 in Lagos to 33.”
Also, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Thursday that 48 patients receiving treatment for coronavirus at the state’s Isolation facilities have been discharged after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.
He said those discharged comprised 32 males and 16 females.
The governor said they were treated at Yaba, Lekki, Onikan and Lagos University Teaching Hospital Isolation facilities.
He said, “The patients, 28 from the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, six from Lekki, one from Onikan and 13 from LUTH Isolation Centres were discharged having fully recovered and tested negative to #COVID19 in two consecutive readings.
“With this new development, the number of #COVID19 confirmed cases that have been successfully managed and discharged in Lagos stands at 406.”
