425 Katsina inmates regain freedom


Four hundred and twenty-five inmates in various correctional facilities in Katsina State have regained freedom.



A memo by the Katsina chief Registrar,Kabir Shuaibu dated 20,April,2020 revealed that 319 Awaiting Trials inmates,46 inmates who were critically sick and 32 inmates who would have completed their sentences had their cases been determined were released.



In addition,two Non Governmental Organizations, namely Hospital Friends Association, Katsina and Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders, were also said to have settled the fines of 28 inmates, leading to their release.



The memo revealed that no fewer than 500 cases were reviewed which made the 425 beneficiaries to gain their freedom.



Katsina currently has 39 cases of COVID-19, out of which one death has been recorded.
