The Assistant Inspector General of Police , Zone 2, Ahmed Iliyasu, on Wednesday said residents of Lagos and Ogun states were on lockdown and not shutdown.
Iliyasu said some people have misconstrued the ongoing restriction of movement in the two states in the period of coronavirus crisis.
The AIG spoke at Ojodu-Berger, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states, while monitoring the compliance of the restriction order, as well as the distribution of prepared food to security agents by the Police Community Relations Committee.
The AIG was flanked by the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos states, Kenneth Ebrimson and Hakeem Odumosu.
Iliyasu said, “In view of this national pandemic, the caveat is that anything that has to do with the good or that can affect the health of the nation and anybody who comes out to flagrantly abuses this aspect will definitely be dealt with by the law.”
When asked the level of compliance of the people with the lockdown, the AIG described the level of compliance in both states as “perfect.”
The AIG applauded the PCRC for providing food items to security agents enforcing the lockdown.
He said the gesture would boost their morale.
The Vice Chairman of the PCRC in the South-West, Ibrahim Olaniyan, explained that the body decided to provide succour to policemen who were enforcing the compliance order to encourage them.
Olaniyan added that the gesture was to pass a message to the uniformed men on duty across the states to stay at their duty posts.
He said the PCRC would feed policemen and other security agents at the strategic locations in all the states in the South-West.
Olaniyan added, “There is a need to give the police and other security agencies a sense of belonging in the discharge of the duties.
