Two policemen were injured in Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, during the sharing of Covid-19 palliatives on Monday.
The cops sustained hand and head injuries when the committee in charge of the exercise lost control of the huge crowd who turned up for the palliatives at the L.E.A Primary School, Byazhin.
The mob reportedly hurled stones and other objects at the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Dr John Gadaya, and other officials, while his car was vandalised.
Our correspondent gathered that security operatives fired in the air to disperse the crowd, while the exercise was suspended.
Trouble reportedly started after speculations went round that some officials were planning to hijack the food items comprising five trucks of rice, millet and condiments provided by the FCT administration.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, adding that two policemen sustained injuries while trying to control the restive crowd.
“The men were taken to the hospital for treatment while the situation was brought under control,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Inspector- General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the posting of four Commissioners of Police.
They are Olugbenga Adeyanju, who was redeployed to Adamawa State, Isaac Akinmoyede, Imo; Audu Madaki, Force Criminal and Investigation Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja and Edward Egbuka, Plateau State.
