Boko Haram loot shops, razes houses in Adamawa

Boko Haram on Monday night attacked Kirchinga, a village in the Madagali Local Government Area in northern parts of Adamawa.

The attackers set some houses ablaze and looted shops.

Besides burning houses and carting away valuables, Boko Haram fighters also shot an octogenarian in the leg before they were repelled by troops of the Nigerian Army.

A resident who spoke with our correspondent said the attackers came in pickup vans and motorcycles.

He said, “They came in shooting into the air and looted shops, burnt houses as people scamper for safety. They also shot an octogenarian before they were repelled by the army.

“The devastation would have been more but for the timely response by the soldiers stationed in Kirchinga.”

Commander of the troops in Madagali, Colonel Abdulsalam, confirmed the attack.

“Yes, there was an attack, but it was repelled successfully,”  he said.

Madagali has been in the forefront of several attacks by the Boko Haram terrorist group since they waged a campaign against the Nigerian government in 2009, killing thousands and rendering millions homeless.
