Lagos lawmaker purchases 250 UTME forms for constituents

The lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo 2 Constituency of Lagos State in the National Assembly, Mr Ganiyu Johnson, has urged leaders to provide education support to the youths to take their minds off crime.

Johnson stated this in Lagos when he presented free University Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms to 250 students in his constituency, in addition to free tutorial lessons for Computer-Based Test examinations.

The lawmaker, who was represented by his wife, Funke, said engaging the youths and supporting their educational pursuit would make them inculcate good virtues.

She said her husband held education in high esteem, hence, his decision to sponsor the students, adding that the lawmaker would also give scholarships to five outstanding students in due time.

While encouraging the students to take their studies seriously and be useful persons in society as well as touch the lives of other people in the future, she stressed that education was the only asset that would take them out of criminality and other forms of negativity.

She said, “When people are engaged they would not think negatively. As a father, Johnson  wants people to be hardworking. We know that when we educate these children, they would no longer think of crime but would think about how to affect society positively.”

A beneficiary, Sulaiman Alabi, said it was a privilege, adding that it was coming at a financially difficult time for his parents.

He commended the lawmaker and urged other beneficiaries to take advantage of the free lectures to enhance their performances in the forthcoming matriculation examination.

Meanwhile, the wife of the lawmaker, who unveiled other programmes for the constituency, urged parents to tutor their wards against joining bad gangs.

“We will also request that parents train their children in the fear of the Lord so that they can also impact society positively. Cultism is a vice, parents should inculcate good culture in their children so that even outside the homes, they would remain, good ambassadors,” she added.
