Ighalo placed under special fitness program by United

…as Berbatov tips ex-Eagles striker to shine

Manchester United’s newest acquisition, Odion Ighalo, is not taking his new Old Trafford spell lightly, as he has been placed under special fitness program to regain sharpness as the Red Devils prepare for a showdown with Chelsea after the winter break.

Ighalo’s arrival at Carrington (United’s training ground) has generated divided opinion within the soccer community, with many critics skeptical of his chances at becoming a hit at Old Trafford.

But, Ighalo and United are keen to make the union work and prove critics wrong.

The former Nigeria international, who last played football in December, is short of fitness and needs to adjust to the physical demands of the EPL.

And to achieve this goal, United have resorted to placing the Nigerian under a program specifically tailored to get him up to pace with his teammates, according to MEN.

According to the report, he has been undertaking these sessions at the National Taekwondo Centre in Newton Heath.

The 30-year-old will join his teammates on their warm-weather training camp prior to the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 17.

“Good week so far with Ighalo, as we prepare him for his move to Manchester United,” Richardson Sport wrote on social media.

“Working behind the scenes. A fantastic Athlete, but the hard work begins.”

Meanwhile, former United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, believes the Nigerian move is a good one for the Red Devils.

“I think it’s a good move for United because Ighalo has played in the Premier League, and did well with Watford, so he will know what to expect.

“He’s scored plenty of goals in China and his record for Nigeria is impressive too. I want to see him play as soon as possible because I’m curious to see how he will fit in to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
