Senate adjourns, replaces Melaye with Adeyemi


The Senate on Friday held a special plenary to pass the Federal Capital 2020 budget, which is N278,355,365,947bn



The upper chamber thereafter adjourned till January 28, 2020.



Before the adjournment, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, named Senator Smart Adeyemi, as the chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation to replace Dino Melaye.



The Senate would have adjourned on Thursday but shelved plenary in honour of the late senator representing Imo North Senatorial district, Benjamin Uwajumogu.



The Senate, however, increased the statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory by N46bn.



The expenditure structure for the proposed 2020 FCT budget showed a total recurrent expenditure of N110,946,584,530.



The Personnel cost is N53,876,241,095 while the overhead cost is N57,070,343,435bn.



The Capital expenditure for 2020 fiscal year is N121,928,781,417.



The amount is about N75.6bn higher representing 260 per cent increase over last year’ capital budget of N46,292,431,523.09.



The engineering services has the highest allocation of capital expenditure with the sum of N59.946bn, followed by N36.540bn for satellite towns development.



The Senate thereafter adjourns plenary till January to observe Christmas and New Year holidays.



The President of the Senate had earlier named Adeyemi as the chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation.



Adeyemi replaced Melaye who lost the November 16 rerun senatorial election.
