LASG begins reconstruction of Ikorodu, VI roads

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated the reconstruction and upgrade of some roads in the Ikorodu and Victoria Island areas of Lagos State.

He said the three road projects in Ikorodu – Owutu-Agric-Isawo, Bola Tinubu-Igbogbo-Imota and Itamaga-Ijede roads – would be completed in 20 months.

Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday noted that the projects, which would be handled by Messrs Hitech Construction Company and Arab Contractor, would give residents relief from traffic congestion.

He noted that the projects were fulfillment of his campaign promises.

“These promises are now being translated to reality because we have the construction of these roads. We have ensured that we deployed competent and reliable contractors to design and deliver the projects on agreed date,” he added.

The governor described Ikorodu as a critical component of the Lagos, assuring residents that his administration remained committed to reviving infrastructure in the division.

The road projects, Sanwo-Olu disclosed, would create job opportunities for residents living around the sites, pointing out that the contractors had agreed to engage community members in informal work and supply of materials.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, said the projects would also eliminate the problem of flooding and improve socio-economic well-being of the people.

Sanwo-Olu also inaugurated the upgrade of the Victoria Island-Oniru road.

A statement on Wednesday said the project, which was being executed through Public Infrastructure Improvement Partnership, was conceptualised four months earlier by Planet Projects at the instance of Access Bank Plc, the major partner.

According to the statement, the project will improve the traffic linkage and travel time around the highly commercial area.

The governor said the project would be completed in six months.
