Kaduna provides N50m to tackle VVF

The Kaduna State Government has created a N50m budget line for Vesico Vaginal Fistula patients in the 2020 budget for their treatment, food and skills training.

The state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, made the disclosure at a high level conference on Obstetric Fistula held in Kaduna.

She said that the state had over 12,000 untreated cases, as the only VVF centre at the Gambo Sawaba Hospital could only treat 200 patients annually.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Baba as saying the state government was however meticulous in treating the VVF patients.

She stated, “In the first phase, patients are hospitalised for at least three weeks and they go through psycho-social aid process, which includes nutrition and counselling.

“The procedure stage is when surgery or repair is conducted on the patients. The third stage is when the patients go through the rehabilitation process.”

She said after the skills training, the patients would receive starter packs to enable them commence business after their treatment.
