FG declares Monday public holiday


The Federal Government has declared Monday as a public holiday to mark the 2019 Eid-ul-Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammed.



The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, through the ministry’s spokesman, Mohammed Manga.



He congratulated the Muslim faithful on the occasion and enjoined them to live within the virtues and teachings of the prophet, which he said are love, courage and perseverance, adding that doing so would guarantee peace and security in the country.



Aregbesola expressed the hope that the challenges confronting the nation at the moment would soon be over and called on Nigerians to remain focused and determined.



He said, “With the immense potential the country is endowed with and  its human and natural resources, if tapped and properly utilised, Nigeria will sooner than later join the league of developed nations.



“With love, commitment, self-sacrifice, patience and patriotism, we will certainly, build a greater Nigeria.”



The minister restated the government’s desire to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all Nigerians and urged all citizens to pursue love for one another.
