59th Independence: Nigeria’s future ‘ll be better, says NUPENG

The National Leadership of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers says it foresees a better future for Nigeria, as the nation celebrated its 59th independence on Tuesday.

This was contained in a statement in a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.

The statement jointly signed by the union’s National President, Williams Akporeha and the General Secretary, Afolabi Olawale, read in part, “The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers heartily felicitates with our members and the rest of Nigerians as our country today, marks the 59th anniversary of independence as a sovereign nation.

“As we look forward to another year in our national life, we are more than confident as a union that our tomorrow will be better than our yesterday and today.

“Nigeria has got the human and material resources to excel and we shall lead the way in that journey to our manifest destiny.”

The union urged stakeholders saddled with the responsibility of protecting workers’ interest to wake up to their responsibilities by addressing the exploitation and abuse of workers in order to build capacity.

The union added that there was a need to develop and accentuate the human capital development and robust youth empowerment for the overall good of Nigeria in accordance with industry and international best practices.

NUPENG also urged Nigerians to unite in word and action towards building the country.
