UEFA U17: Eaglets beat hosts Turkey

Golden Eaglets began their UEFA U17 International Tournament campaign with a 2-0 win against hosts Turkey at the TFF Hasan Dogan National Teams Camp and Training Facilities on Sunday.

Olakunle Olusegun scored the first goal in the 10th minute before substitute Divine Nwachukwu sealed the win for the five-time world champions in the 90th minute.

Nigeria’s U-17 side will battle Guatemala in their next game on Tuesday, before wrapping up their group games against Senegal on Thursday.

Head coach of the team, Manu Garba, described the tournament as a perfect opportunity to test the readiness of the players for the task ahead at the U-17 World Cup next month in Brazil.

“I am very optimistic that the tournament will come good for the players to stand the test of time in Brazil.

“Playing Turkey is definitely a strong test for the team,” Manu said after the game.

The eight participating teams at the UEFA/CAF U17 International Tournament are hosts Turkey, Nigeria, Scotland, Angola, Cameroon, Senegal, Paraguay and Guatemala.
