Obiano presents N137bn budget to assembly


The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Thursday, presented a budget of N137.1bn to the state House of Assembly for the 2020 fiscal year.



The budget provided N57.69bn as recurrent expenditure and N78.3bn as capital expenditure, representing 43 and 57 per cent, respectively.



Obiano said the budget would take into consideration the state’s revenue and expenditure trend.



The governor added, “This is expected to drive the 2020 budget theme of ‘Accelerating Infrastructural Development and Youth Entrepreneurship.’



“We hope that the budget allocation will facilitate the intended improvement in infrastructure in Anambra State.



“This budget plans to sustain our past performance and ensure that Anambra State continues to maintain its status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments.”



Road construction and rehabilitation, according to the budget, would gulp N22.2bn, out of which N15.15bn would be spent on the construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones.



Education got the second highest allocation in the budget of N8.3bn, followed by the Anambra International Airport, which was allotted N6bn.



The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, commended the governor for the early presentation of the budget, while assuring him of accelerated work on it for quick passage.
