Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have asked the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to prioritise the needs of residents in the 2020 budget.
They said issues bordering on insecurity, road rehabilitation, shortage of public schools and hospitals, inadequate classrooms, drainage channels and environmental sanitation, should be factored into the next budget.
The lawmakers spoke on Tuesday during a plenary after the Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, to forward the report of a stakeholders’ meeting to the governor.
The meeting, which held across the 40 constituencies in the state, was attended by the lawmakers and members of the state cabinet.
In the report of the meeting, themed, ‘Environmental Challenges: Community Engagement to Facilitate Lasting Solution, residents highlighted their challenges.
Obasa, who observed that the requests might not be achieveable in a year, noted that the report could signpost significant performance for the administration if considered.
The member representing Kosofe Constituency II, Tunde Braimoh, said the meeting was a success in his constituency, commending the governor for instructing his cabinet members to attend.
The lawmaker representing Amuwo-Odofin 1, Alli-Macaulay, observed the filthy environment in his constituency, saying it could breed epidemic if not quikcly addressed.
Member representing Mushin I, Akinsanya Nureni, lamented the inadequate number of public secondary schools and general hospitals in his constituency.
“He said, “There is the need for the restoration of the monthly Saturday sanitation and the re-introduction of sanitary inspectors,”
