One killed, seven injured in Lagos–Ibadan Expressway crash


One person was confirmed dead while seven others sustained varying degrees of injury in a multiple road crash involving a Mitsubishi Canter bus, a Toyota bus and a motorcycle around Ogere Toll Gate on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.



City Round learnt that the accident, which occurred around 8am on Friday, resulted from a brake failure of the Mitsubishi Canter bus as the driver lost control of the vehicle.



The spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, noting that the bus hit the Toyota bus, which in turn hit the motorcycle.



He said, “The accident involved a Mitsubishi Canter marked XG 166 MKA, a Toyota bus with the number plate, FST 908 DH and a motorcycle with registration number, FFF 319 WU.



“A total of 19 people were involved in the accident. Seven people were injured which included five males and two females while one person who was among the passengers in the Toyota bus died. All the vehicles and motorcycle involved were Lagos-bound when the accident happened,”



Akinbiyi said the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, Remo, while the deceased was deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara, Remo.



He urged road users to carry out routine checks on their vehicles before setting out on any journey.



“The corps is again using this opportunity to implore the motoring public to carry put routine checks and maintenance on their vehicles setting out on any journey, more so that the raining season is still on with its attendant challenges and consequences,” he said.
