Candidate arrested for forging UTME scores to study medicine

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Friday that it would hand over one of its candidates, Kingsley Unekwe, to the police for tampering with his 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result and inflating the score from 201 to 269.

The board noted that Unekwe allegedly contacted some fraudsters to produce a fake UTME result slip reading 269 after which he presented the result to deceive his parents who wanted him to study Medicine.

Our correspondent learnt that Unekwe later contacted JAMB to upgrade his score on their portal, during which he was nabbed by security operatives.

The candidate, in the presence of his mother and officials of JAMB on Friday in Abuja, confessed to have tampered with the original UTME result, while pleading for some leniency. He claimed that he was not aware of the fraudsters’ activities.

But the JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, said the boy would be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.

The registrar said, “Anybody who does post-result infraction will have their results withdrawn by the board. You (Unekwe) are the fifth person. Two of the other candidates are already being prosecuted because we showed them clearly that they forged their results to deceive their parents who are desperate, like your parents are, to study medicine.

We will prosecute you for attempting to tarnish the image of the board. We told your father that we have all the facts; since we now see that your claims are not correct, you will be prosecuted.”
