Kaduna PDP alleges plan to tamper with election materials

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission was planning to tamper with election materials used for the March 9, 2019 govenorship election in the state.

The party’s state Publicity Secretary, Mr Abraham Catoh, made the allegation in a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna.

Recall that the PDP has appealed the ruling of the state election petition tribunal which dismissed the party’s request for a re-count of votes.

The PDP spokesman said the party was in possession of evidence that the electoral body was planning to tamper with the election materials in its custody.

According to him, the INEC is  under pressure to tamper with election materials in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

He warned the commission against tampering with the election materials, noting that such move would be resisted by the electorate.

He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State has received  credible information that the Independent National Electoral Commission is under intense pressure to tamper with election materials used for the conduct of governorship elections on March 9, 2019 in the state.

“We are drawing the attention of the world, Nigerians and the people of Kaduna State in particular to note the attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress and the government of Kaduna State to coerce INEC into tampering with electoral materials.

“In as much as we do not want to question the integrity of INEC, we wish to state that the eyes and ears of our teeming party faithfuls and sympathisers are wide open in all INEC offices spread throughout  the 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State and INEC state headquarters.

“We advise INEC not to do anything that can tamper with the fragile peace reigning in the state, as any attempt to do the bidding of undemocratic external forces will be resisted by the public whose mandate was earlier stolen.”

The PDP wondered why people who claimed to have won the governorship elections would be putting pressure on INEC to tamper with the election materials in their favour.
