Poor power supply: Alimosho residents slam Ikeja Electric, petition NERC

A group, Joint Action Committee of all Local Council Development Areas of Alimosho Local Government, has  petitioned  the Nigerian  Electricity Regulatory Commission over the poor  power supply, which has crippled economic activities in Alimosho, Lagos.

The group  urged NERC to intervene before it results in total collapse of businesses in the area.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the committee,  Seun Ogunseye, a copy of which  was made available to our correspondent,  the group  accused Ikeja Electric Plc of deliberately refusing to  provide its customers in the area prepaid  electricity meters and  transformers.

While expressing their displeasure with the company, Ogunseye said the situation  was  becoming unbearable for the residents of the communities in Alimoso.

The statement said, “They have refused to give  us prepaid electricity  meters; we experience regular poor power supply and  overbilling in our communities. We also lack transformers in those areas.

“Ikeja Electric is only interested in money  to  the detriment of their customers.

“We are particularly pained when we learnt that prepaid  electricity meters will only be given to highly indebted customers and that no arrangement for those who are not indebted.

“We  see this as an affront and a slap in the faces of those who are paying their bills legitimately and  are law-abiding citizens.”
