Eze promises to consider call for withdrawal of election petition

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, Ayogu Eze, on Sunday promised to look into an appeal that he should withdraw the petition he filed to challenge the re-election of the state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

He made the promise when members of the state traditional rulers’ council led by their chairman, Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzu, paid him a visit at his Enugu residence.

The traditional rulers appealed to Eze to withdraw the petition he filed before the tribunal.

While promising to get back to them on the issue, the governorship candidate assured them that their intervention would not be in vain.

Eze told journalists after the meeting that, “I am highly honoured by their presence. I want to assure them that their effort to bring peace shall not be in vain. I have told the chairman that within the next one or two days, I will revert to him.

“I have been consulting widely and I also need to talk to the leadership of my party on this visit, because this visit by traditional rulers is indeed a turning point.

“I have had visitations from other groups, but this is the height of it. I want to assure them that their visit shall not be in vain.”

Agubuzu has earlier told the journalists that they visited Eze on behalf of the people of the state “to appeal to our illustrious son, Senator Eze, to withdraw the petition before the tribunal.”
