Tiv group seeks peace in Benue, Taraba


A group, Tiv Youth Council, on Wednesday called on  the  Benue State Government,  traditional and religious institutions to  end  the  ongoing communal clash between Tiv and Jukun in Taraba State.



The communal crisis  has claimed many lives, with many  displaced after their homes were burnt.



The President of the group, Comrade Mike Msuaan, in a statement  also told the Federal Government to stop bloodletting in Benue.



Msuaan said, “We call on the  federal and state  governments to  do everything possible  to end the Tiv/Jukun crisis.



“We also  call for the setting up of an independent commission  of inquiry into the crisis and  identify  the  sponsors. The perpetrators, when found,  should be made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as a  deterrent to others.



“We again demand  compensation  for  the victims. This is the responsibility of our state government.”



Msuaan lamented  that the violence which  has claimed lives in Benue and called on the state government to stop killings in the state.



He commended   the security agencies  for their intervention in  the Tiv/Jukun crisis.
