Buratai seeks joint fight against terrorism

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai,  on Tuesday called for collective action against terrorism in the country.

Buratai, who spoke at the 2nd Nigerian Army Infantry Corps Conference 2019 in  Jaji, Kaduna State,   said   the fight against terrorism should involve every Nigerian.

“Terrorists go to the markets and some of them attend marriage ceremonies,” Buratai said.

The COAS  stated that the Army had done its best and would continue to defend the territorial integrity of the country,  adding  that the infantry corps  would deal with the security challenges facing  the country.

Buratai said,”The changes in the Nigerian Army,  including the innovation and transformational efforts, are quite outstanding to the extent that, with the support of the other security agencies, we were able to deal decisively with the Boko Haram insurgents.

“Today, we have the full initiative; in collaboration with other sisters agencies, we are pushing hard to ensure that we finally sanitised   the northern part of Borno State  and our borders  with Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

“We know they have plans but we are also planning to counter them, and we will deployed maximum intelligence to capture  the insurgents  in the hinterland.

“Terrorism is a complex warfare which needs the involvement of every individual in the country.

“It should not be left for the security personnel or government at all levels or the traditional rulers, it is a joint responsibility and we are all stakeholders.”

The  Commander, Infantry Corps, Maj Gen  Stevenson Olabanji,  said  despite its security challenges the Army had received a boost in terms of infrastructural development.
