Senatorial poll: APC’s Bamidele, Adeyeye, Adetumbi win, Olujimi loses


The All Progressives Congress won all the three senatorial seats and six House of Representatives seats in Ekiti State in Saturday’s National Assembly elections.



The APC senators-elect are former House of Representatives member, Opeyemi Bamidele (Central); former Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye (South) and former National Assembly member, Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi (North).



Returning Officer for Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Prof Jeremiah Omotola, who declared the results at Aramoko Ekiti, said that Bamidele scored a total of 94,279 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Obafemi Adewale, who polled a total of 48,707 votes.



The Returning Officer for Ekiti South Senatorial District, Prof Laide Lawal, returned the APC candidate, Adeyeye, elected having scored 77,621 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Biodun Olujimi, of the PDP, who polled 53,741 votes.



The Returning Officer for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina, also at Ido Ekiti declared the APC candidate, Adetumbi, winner having polled 60,689 votes to defeat Senator Duro Faseyi, who got 49,209 votes.



The PDP candidate and House of Representatives member representing Ekiti South 2 Federal Constituency, Segun Adekola, having secured 25,707 votes, lost reelection bid to the APC candidate and former Chief of Staff to Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mr Yemi Adaramodu, who scored 41,864 votes.



Also, for Ekiti North 2 Constituency, the APC candidate, Olanrewaju Ibrahim, won the election, having scored 29,388 votes as against the 23,684 votes scored by the PDP candidate, Olusola Omotoso.



The APC House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central 1 Federal Constituency, Sola Fatoba, polled 55,483 votes to defeat House of Representatives member and the PDP candidate, Ayodele Oladimeji, who scored 27,836 votes.



Meanwhile, Governor Kayode Fayemi on Sunday said the peaceful elections in the state were answers to prayers in the state.



Fayemi, who spoke at the Government House Chapel, Ado-Ekiti, where he worshiped along with Adeyeye, Fatoba and former Deputy Governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu, urged winners in the elections to be humble and focus on service delivery.



The governor advised them to see their victory as a product of God’s grace and not as a result of their power or might, saying, “We have every reason to thank God for the peaceful conduct of the election in Ekiti State. Two weeks ago, the congregation here raised prayer points concerning the peaceful conduct of the election in our state. And God indeed answered our prayers.



He said, “While I rejoice with the winners, I will also urge them to be humble, realising that they could not have won by their power or might but by God’s grace.



Bamidele, alongside his supporters and well-wishers, celebrated the win with victory dance on the streets of Iyin Ekiti, his home town.
