Atiku floors Buhari in Aso Rock


The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, defeated President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progresives Congress in the total votes cast on Saturday in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.



But both candidates won one each of the two polling units located in the villa. Atiku won in polling unit 022 with 525 votes and Buhari got 465. The President won in polling unit 021 with 548 votes while Atiku scored 505 votes.



In all, Atiku won with 1,030 votes against Buhari’s 1,013 votes.



For the senatorial election, the PDP won Unit 021 with 535 and APC got 531. In Unit 022, PDP also won with 546 votes while APC polled 477 votes. In the total votes for the senatorial election, PDP won with 1,081 votes while APC scored 1,008 votes.



For the House of Representatives’ election, PDP defeated APC in Unit 021 with 525 votes and APC scored 531 votes. In Unit 022, PDP again won with 521 votes and APC scored 466 votes.



In all, the PDP won the House of Representatives election with 1,046 votes and APC got 995. There was orderliness at the villa during the exercise. There were 14 voting points with seven in each of the two units. Electoral officers were comfortably housed under six giant canopies.



White plastic chairs were also provided for voters who sat relaxed under trees. After voting, voters stayed back to witness vote sorting and counting. When it became clear that the exercise would extend into late evening, Julius Berger moved a giant generator and floodlights to the venue. The firm is in charge of the daily maintenance of the villa.
