The Joint Action Committee of the six tertiary institutions in Oyo State on Monday issued a one-week ultimatum to Governor Abiola Ajimobi to pay its members their salary arrears.
The group threatened to begin strike on Monday if the state government failed to pay them their entitlements.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting at Oke Ogun Polytechnic, the JAC, comprising members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, College of Education Academic Staff Union and other unions in the six Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions, expressed its disappointment with the development.
The communiqué signed by the JAC Chairman, Afees Adeniyi, read in part, “(It was resolved that) a seven-day ultimatum (from January 7 to 14, 2019) should be issued for the state government to pay all the arrears of between three and 18 months, failure of which all the workers in the six tertiary institutions would resume their suspended industrial action by January 14, 2019.”
The group added that the trade unions should “align themselves with any action embarked upon by the NLC Oyo State Council regarding the payment of the three and 18 months salary arrears of workers of the six tertiary institutions.”
