Ekiti State Deputy Governor Bisi Egbeyemi and four traditional rulers on Monday intervened in the boundary dispute between Igbemo-Ekiti and Orun-Ekiti communities by holding a meeting with the leaders of the communities to resolve the issue.
The monarchs were the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju; the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe; the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ajakaye; and the Onigede of Igede-Ekiti, Oba James Aladesuru.
The traditional rulers of the warring communities, the Onigbemo, Oba Adewumi Daramola, and the Olorun, Oba Joshua Osalusi, led their chiefs to the meeting.
The dispute resurfaced a fortnight ago when some Igbemo youths allegedly razed the structure used as a bus stop constructed by Orun youths, alleging that they had trespassed on their land.
Egbeyemi, who had told the monarchs of the warring communities to resolve the dispute, warned the two communities against erecting a new structure there to prevent a recurrence of violence.
He appealed to the two communities to live in harmony, saying “government is not happy with the violence sparked by the burning down of the bus stop shed”.
He added, “Peace is needed to facilitate development and attract investments to the state.
“In law, Igbemo is distinct from Orun, even though in the past, they were one entity, but now, they are different entities.
“I will ask the Boundary Commission to investigate the boundary that is causing the problem.”
Oba Daramola and Oba Osalusi promised to resolve their differences and work out modalities on how peace would return to their communities.
