President Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday he was saddened by the loss of many lives in a road accident, which occurred in Ekiti State on Saturday.
Spokesman for the Ekiti State Police Command, Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed that 12 persons died in the auto crash.
However, reports claimed 15 persons perished the accident.
Among them were a mother, her child and a youth corps member.
The accident reportedly occurred about 9.15pm when a truck coming from Ifake and going to Iworoko lost control.
The truck was said to have first hit a car and a bus before it crashed into a roadside market.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as describing the incident as lamenting the development.
The statement added, “On behalf of the Federal Government, President Buhari extends sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victims of the tragedy, which has indeed brought great grief to the local communities.
“The President joins the Ekiti State Government and people in mourning those lost in the accident.
“He appreciates the efforts of the state government in bringing timely succour to the victims in the aftermath of the disaster and assures them of the solidarity of the Federal Government.
