Boko Haram: Yobe gov begs residents not to run away

Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has appealed  to the  residents of the areas recently attacked by Boko Haram  not to run away from their communities.

According to him, the state government has intensified efforts to ensure that people are safe in the state.

The governor, in a statement by his Director-General for Media Affairs, Abdullahi Bego, said the call became necessary following reports that  the victims of the  recent attacks in Kuka Reta, Katarko and Bunigari towns were fleeing the areas.

He disclosed that he had been briefed by  the  heads of security agencies about the  moves being made  to address any threat to security in the state.

The statement said, “The Yobe State Government, therefore, assures the public to  remain calm and that everything necessary is being done to ensure public safety.

“Governor Ibrahim Gaidam wishes to extend his deepest appreciation and those of the Yobe State Government to the people for their continuous cooperation with the military and other security agencies, a measure that has resulted in huge security gains at various times.

“The governor, therefore, urges the people to sustain and build on this level of cooperation and continue to report to law enforcement agencies if and when they notice anything suspicious in their communities.”
