Persons with disabilities in Ekiti State have lamented the difficulty experienced in the process of accessing health care services in the state.
They often encountered at different health care facilities in the state to include discrimination, dearth of necessary infrastructure and lack of understanding of their plight by medical personnel, in addition to the absence of free health care for them.
They spoke under the aegis of the Joint National Association of People with Disabilities in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state, during a validation and consultative forum organised by the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities.
The JONAPWD General-Secretary in Ekiti State, Funso Olajide, sought inclusion of their members and as well people with deep knowledge of PWDs on the boards of health centres and hospitals.
He said: “Bring us in if you really want to care about us. Let us be part of the decision-making. We want Governor Kayode Fayemi to appoint our members into his kitchen cabinet. We will be able to relate to such person on all issues including health”.
