The Lagos State Polytechnic staff unions which comprises of Academic
Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian
Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have allegedly
threatened to disrupt Saturday’s ReadySetWork Programme in the school’s Ikorodu
campus.
This came after Lagos State Government filed a motion on
notice for interlocutory injunction before the National Industrial Court
sitting in Lagos to restrain the unions from embarking on another strike
action.
The Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on
Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, in a statement on Friday, said the originating
processes and motion on notice for interlocutory injunction have been served on
the three unions.
As a result of this, the three unions according to a source
have decided to stop Saturday’s Ready-Set-Work programme which is an initiative
of Lagos State Government from holding in the Ikorodu campus of the school.
The source told our correspondent that the unions were angry
with the state government for taking the matter to court considering the fact
that they are fighting for their right.
Meanwhile, the project team of the ReadySetWork programme has
assured LASPOTIANS that the programme will go on as planned on Saturday in
LASPOTECH without any disruption.
In an email sent to the students participating in the
13weeks programme, the team says; “as usual, training will take place in the 3
centers which are LASU, LASPOTECH and UNILAG”
“For LASPOTECH students and students from other school who
have centers in LASPOTECH, RSW will take place as normal in LASPOTECH. All
activities remain the same, kindly endeavour to get to your center on time.”
