Ronaldo sets new european record as Madrid move to brink of Spanish title

Cristiano Ronaldo became the all-time top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues as his double helped Real Madrid move within one point of La Liga with a 4-1 drubbing of Celta Vigo

Ronaldo’s efforts (10’, 48’) were added to by Karim Benzema (70’) and Toni Kroos (88’) after John Guidetti (70) had given the home side brief hope with a deflected effort on 69 minutes.

Madrid are three points clear of Barcelona, and will claim their first Spanish title in five years if they earn a draw at Malaga on Sunday with Barca needing to beat Eibar at the Camp Nou and hope Zinedine Zidane’s side lose.
