In furtherance to the Eko Gas Scheme by the Liquefied
Petroleum Gas (LPG) Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI)
in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, a member of the LCCI LPG Group,
Chimons Gas Limited has over the weekend distributed 20 (Twenty) 6kg cylinders
free to members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Navy Town Lagos.
Speaking with newsmen after the distribution of the
cylinders, the Executive Director, Chimons Gas Limited, Baylon Duru said the
initiative is an extension of the Eko Gas Scheme which was initiated during the
former Governor Babatunde Fashola’s Administration where over 20,000 (Twenty Thousand) cylinders were
distributed to people in various Local Government Areas (LGA’s) and Local
Government Development Areas (LCDA’s).

of LCCI LPG Group further noted that Chimons as a member of LCCI with
other members have decided to distribute the some cylinders from the scheme to
religious bodies in a programme tagged the
LPG Evangelism.
“This initiative was informed by the fact that women still
need to be educated on the importance of cooking gas to salvage the ever
arising health issues women are exposed to due to their unhealthy exposure to
bad cooking fuels,” he said.
He stated that
henceforth the programme is going to be a continuous one as the LPG Group of LCCI has deemed it fit to
include the programme as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to their
various communities of host.
Responding to the cost effectiveness of using cooking gas by
average Nigerians in the heat of the recent hike in prices, Duru noted that the
cost of cooking gas is still less expensive as compared to the cumulative cost
of other energy sources like kerosene, firewood, charcoal etc.
The industry he said is expanding and developing and very
soon people would employ pay as you go services of gas through Skid plants and they would not need to fill
up their cylinders but rather fill their desired amount.
Commending the Company, some recipients of the cylinders
expressed gratitude saying it would ease cooking and create a more convenient
environment for better health for them.
Mrs. Blessing Ndike said; “I am very happy, I didn’t know I
would be called but I thank God. It is very necessary to use LPG because it is
convenient and important.”
On her own part, Mrs. Charity Uche said; “I am happy to be a
beneficiary of the company’s corporate social responsibility and very grateful
for the cylinder. LPG makes cooking very easy. Cost wise it is okay compared to
other cooking fuel.”
