American actor, producer, rapper, and songwriter, Will Smith
has been named as one of the 9-member jury of this year’s edition of the
popular Festival de Cannes, taking place in Cannes, France from May 17 to 18.
Other members of the jury, which is being headed by Spanish
movie director, writer and producer, Pedro Almodóvar, as President, include
Maren Ade (Director, Screenwriter, Producer – Germany); Jessica Chastain
(Actress, Producer – United States); Fan Bingbing (Actress, Producer – China);
Agnès Jaoui (Actress, Screenwriter, Director,
Singer – France); Park Chan-wook (Director, Screenwriter, Producer – South Korea); Paolo Sorrentino
(Director, Screenwriter – Italy); and
Gabriel Yared (Composer – France).
The jurors are expected to select from among the films in
competition, and the winners will be announced on Sunday 28th May at the
closing ceremony, following which the Palme d’or (the best film category) will
be awarded in the presence of the winning team.
