World PR forum moves to Toronto

Public Relations practitioners and managers across the world will gather in Toronto, Canada from Sunday, May 29th to 31st 2016, to be part of the 2016 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) hosted by the Canadian Public Relations Society. The theme of the forum is ‘Communication across Cultures’.

The WPRF 2016 will be one of the largest assemblies of public relations and communications professionals from around the world, and a unique opportunity to gather professionals with academics, producing important outcomes for the advancement of the profession.

Interested participants in Nigeria can register for the conference through the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) at a total package of $892. Deadline for the registration is the evening of February 29th,2016.

The annual conference organised by Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, would have CEOs of McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, Nestlé Canada and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as discussants on the challenges and rewards of being part of a larger, international brand.

In the case of McDonald’s and Nestlé, the home of that international brand is in another country. For TIFF, the brand is headquartered in Canada but is far-reaching and must be a part of a global initiative as much as with the other two organizations profiled in this exclusive CEO panel discussion.

President and CEO – McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Ltd, John E. Betts, who has headed the restaurant chain since 2008. Under his leadership, McDonald’s Canada has achieved incredible business momentum, increased annual sales and guest counts, undertook a comprehensive restaurant re-imaging program, and introduced relevant menu enhancements like McCafé – making McDonald’s a leading destination for premium coffee. McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited and its Canadian franchisees own and operate over 1,400 restaurants and employ more than 85,000 Canadians.

Also speaking at the forum is Shelley Martin, President and CEO of Nestlé Canada Inc., a leading company that produces some of the world’s most recognized and trusted foods and beverages. Martin joined Nestlé Canada in 1990 and has risen through the ranks. Nestlé in Canada businesses employ approximately 3,500 people in over 20 facilities, including manufacturing sites, sales offices and distribution centres nationally.

Director and CEO of the Toronto International Film Festival, Piers Handling, will also be a speaker at the forum. He has been the Director and Chief Executive Officer of TIFF since 1994, responsible for leading both the operational and artistic growth of the organization. Handling has curated numerous film retrospectives, presented programmes of Canadian cinema, sat on festival juries all around the world, and has published extensively on Canadian cinema.

The moderator of the event is Gordon McIvor who is presently the President of the Empire Club of Canada and the Executive Director of the National Executive Forum on Public Property. He is the founder of the CEO Award in Public Relations which was one of CPRS Toronto’s most successful annual events for over 20 years.

Part of activities at the event are the opening reception on Sunday, the Monday night excursion where delegates will enjoy an evening of Canadian fun and hospitality as well as the Joint CPRS-GA Awards Gala which would recognize and reward outstanding public relations programmes and projects from across the country, and encourage continuous improvement in the practice of public relations.

The WPRF started in 2001 and was held in Rome, Italy. Since then, it has been hosted by various PR communities across the world including Brasilia, Brazil; Cape Town, South Africa; London, United Kingdom; Stockholm, Sweden; Melbourne, Australia and Madrid, Spain.
