Media: Why we introduced new music tracking device —CCM

A media monitoring company, Compliance and Content Monitoring Limited (CCM), has identified the need to detect and track several songs played on the nation’s airwaves as the major reason for the introduction of musiktrak, another tracking device to its range of tracking devices.

The device, which is available on www.musiktrak.com, the company explained, detects and provides complete, comprehensive and verifiable log of the airplay of songs by local and foreign artistes across 260 radio and television stations in Nigeria.

Musiktrak, according to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Tunde Onadele, is the first and only service that tracks song played across Nigeria with around the clock recording of free-to-air broadcast transmission, presented in two comprehensive report packages, the musiktrak report and the musiktrak chart.

He noted that now that reliable data for song plays on radio and television stations in Nigeria is available, collective management organisations like Copyright Society of Nigeria (CUSON) and Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) have no excuse for not collecting royalties from broadcast organisations or paying same to right owners locally and abroad in a way that is fully transparent and accountable.

“Musiktrak is an advanced detection and logging technology that can be put to use by various music industry stakeholders for planning competitive activities and obtaining hard data for making royalty/legal claims or forecasting royalty fees.

“With the new device, some of the disputes in the music industry can be averted and music makers, users, collection bodies and regulators can now focus on growing the industry. This is the first and only service that tracks song played across Nigeria with around the clock recording of free-to-air broadcast transmission, and this is presented in two comprehensive report packages - the musiktrak report and the musiktrak chart,” he stated.

The introduction of the new tracking device, he added, would further boost the industry’s efforts in providing accurate tracking standards for music aired through the length and breadth of the country.
