The Lagos State Government has said it is planning to take advantage of cocoa value chain production to enhance food security and employment opportunities in the state.
The state ministry of agriculture said the plan would be kick-started with the maiden Eko Chocolate show organised by Eti-Oni Development Group in partnership with the state government.
A statement on Monday by the Director, Public Affairs of the ministry, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, said the Permanent Secretary, Dr Olayiwole Onasanya, promised that the partnership would help to achieve a sustainable cocoa economy in the country.
Onasanya, who spoke through the Director, Agric Business, Mrs Aramide Ganzallo, at a press conference to signal the partnership and the exhibition, said the programme would help attract investors to the country.
He said, “The cocoa value chain has a lot of potential that can be harnessed which can impact positively on the Gross Domestic Product of the country.
“Job opportunities will be created through cocoa production, chocolate making, warehousing and branding which will in turn also help boost the country’s export drive.”
The Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer of Eti-Oni Development Group, Yetunde Adegbite, said the show, which will hold from April 13 to 14, was aimed at bringing investors, partners, experts, manufacturers and all stakeholders “along the supply chain of cocoa to chocolate together.”
